The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which is abbreviated to HSWA, HASWA or HASAWA is the act passed by parliament. This act was passed to ensure that the welfare of people is complied with within the workplace. The act is constructed of the general duties of employers, employees and contractors to ensure that the workplace is a safe place. The act is available for download on the internet.
Whilst I have been out with my camera I have taken every care to ensure that I have acted in a safe manner. Whilst shooting near water I have been careful no accidents could occur like falling into water and in parks I have always respected the trees and plants making sure I been careful where I have stood. When I have been in towns and particulary Paris I have always obtained a map and taken care near the roads and on underground trains. I have written safety considerations in my posts explaining what safety considerations were took.

People, Portraits and Reportage
At the weekend we went to Buxton for the day and I took my Nikon D90 and used my 24-105mm lens to take some shots whilst walking around. I did not use my Macro Nikkor 105mm lens I did not have my tripod and was not looking to shoot any close up shots. It was a very bright and sunny day and the camera controls had to be changed constantly while walking from shady to bright areas.
We also visited some caves which I altered the ISO and then forgot to alter it back again once outside, so some of the shots were shot on the complete wrong ISO but came out really nice. I did not take my tripod but I did not need it as the bright sunshine ensured that a really fast shutter was needed. I charged my battery fully and had a spare memory card.
I have converted the images to black and white in post production and added sepia tones to some of the images. I have also used the history brush to colour parts of black and white images like the Telephone Box, Rugby shirt and No Entry sign.
Safety Considerations
Whilst walking around Buxton I considered all safety aspects and ensured that I was careful around roads using pedestrian crossing where they were available. I also ensured that every care was taken whilst shooting near water so no accidents occured to me or my children as they often played near the water. I was careful whilst walking around the park and ensured that I respected the plants, trees and flowers making sure that I did not damage anything. It was a really hot day and we all had drinks and refreshments to ensure that we stayed hydrated in the hot sunshine. Suncream was applied to eliminate the risk of sunburn.

Fun Photo Shoot
My cousins are in a band and asked me to shoot some promotional shots which could be used for merchandising and for their website. I fully charged my battery and took with me my tripod as we would be shooting indoors and a slow shutter would be needed. I took my Nikon D90 camera and my 18-105mm lens and Nikkor 105mm Macro lens for any close up portrait shots. We borrowed some lighting equipment which consisted of two softbox lights and two umbrellas for the side to stop any shadows forming on the back of the greenscreen. We had a green screen backdrop which is a good colour for using if you want to change the background on any images in post production. The green screen can be removed very easily and different backgrounds added. We positioned two lights in front on the side and then used umbrellas to diffuse the light so no shadows were cast against the green screen.
Green Screen technology is the effects used in everything from Hollywood Movies to the weather forecast. Its a single colour backdrop which is normally blue or green. Using Green Screen technology it is really simple to superimpose anything or anyone into any shot. Here I have just changed the colour of the background in photoshop but different backgrounds can also be used.
These images were all shot with my 18-105mm lens except the close up shots of Emily which were taken with my Nikkor Macro 105mm lens. For all the shots I used a medium to wide zoom of in between 24-80mm which is a good focal length for group and full length portraits.

Evaluation
I really enjoyed doing these shots it was really nice to photograph people you feel really comfortable with and we had a great time doing it. We are planning another shoot tomorrow but this time in costume while we still have the lighting equipment. The backdrop was creased which shows through on some of the images but this can be rectified in photoshop.
Safety Considerations
Whilst shooting this shoot every care was taken for the safety aspects. There was lots of wires around for the lighting equipment and very little space. I ensured that all the wires were in a safe place and there was no possibility of anyone tripping over. There was no drinks or liquids around to eliminate any possibility that any liquid could be spilt onto any equipment or electical goods. All the lighting equipment was checked to ensure it was erected properly so no accidents could occur with lighting falling over.
